The God Who Speaks - Dec 2006

Hi there faithful listener,

I've just returned from a travel month where I got to witness the kindness of God to his children many times over. When he begins to speak, his voice is so often accompanied by an outpouring of his love.

I've got just a couple of new questions to share that proved to open important doors for people in prayer in the last while. Can I suggest you give them a try?

Series One (compliments of Geri Pauls):

1. Lord, what fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5) or Beatitude (Matt. 5) are you working on in my life right now?

2. Lord, what would hinder that fruit from growing as it should?

3. Lord, what would nurture its growth?

We've found that this template is working well when praying for others as well... and it seems unusually easy to hear God in this regard. Because the second question mentions a hinderance, it's very important to approach it gently with a 1 Cor. 13 worldview of love (as Murray Dueck wisely cautions) so that we don't slip into the role of the accuser. However, I do welcome the warnings of God through loving friends, so with some care, this is helpful.

Series Two (compliments of Brita Miko):

1. Lord, you reveal yourself in the Scriptures in so many ways: God the Shepherd, the Lamb, the Lion, the King, the Servant, the Baby, the Pillar of Fire and so many more. Which revelation of you do you have for me today? Why do I need that image of you today?

2. Lord, what filters or false beliefs would distort my image of you today? Are there ways that I regard you which our hindering our friendship? What truth do you want to bring that would remove that filter / falsehood?

Note: God may need to show you where you picked up the filter in the first place. And he may want to meet you in that moment to heal what was broken. If the Lord seems to be leading you that way, I'd suggest praying with a support person who can be there with you through it.

Finally, I have a suggestion for those who'd love to grow in their prophetic gift (or even to seek that gift as instructed in 1 Cor. 14:1). For the first time, Murray Dueck's prophetic school, "Samuel's Mantle," is offering their course online. I attended the school for two years and found it to be a powerful equipping tool with a strong biblical core. You can get a free taste of it at http://www.samuelsmantle.com. This is a dear friend that I'm happy to commend to you.

Have a good Christmas everyone,

Brad Jersak

p.s. If you feel that this newsletter could help your church members, you might consider asking your pastor for permission to make mention of it in you church bulletin. Thanks!
